چکیده

We present multi-object spectroscopy of young, massive stars in the Local Group galaxy IC 1613. We provide the spectral classification and a detailed spectral catalog for 54 OBA stars in this galaxy. The majority of the photometrically selected sample is composed of Band A-type supergiants. The remaining stars include early O-type dwarfs and the only Wolf-Rayet star known in this galaxy. Among the early B stars we have serendipitously uncovered 6 Be stars, the largest spectroscopically confirmed sample of this class of objects beyond the Magellanic Clouds. We measure chemical abundances for 9 early-B supergiants, and find a mean oxygen abundance of 12 + log(O/H) = 7.90 ± 0.08. This value is consistent with the result we obtain for two H II regions in which we detect the temperature-sensitive [O III]λ 4363 auroral line. Subject headings: galaxies: abundances — galaxies: stellar content — galaxies: individual (IC 1613) — stars: early-type

The Araucaria Project: The Local Group Galaxy WLM - Distance and Metallicity from Quantitative Spectroscopy of Blue Supergiants

The quantitative analysis of low resolution spectra of A and B supergiants is used to determine a distance modulus of 24.99± 0.10 mag (995± 46 Kpc) Based on VLT observations for ESO Large Programme 171.D-0004.

Stellar Spectroscopy Far beyond the Local Group

Multi-object spectroscopic observations of blue supergiants in NGC 3621, a spiral galaxy at a distance of 6.7 Mpc, carried out with the ESO VLT and FORS are presented. We demonstrate the feasibility of quantitative stellar spectroscopy at distances approaching a ten-fold increase over previous investigations by determining chemical composition, stellar parameters, reddening, extinction and wind...

Quantitative Spectroscopy of 24 A supergiants in the Sculptor galaxy NGC 3001: Flux weighted gravity luminosity relationship, metallicity and metallicity gradient

A quantitative spectral analysis of 24 A supergiants in the Sculptor Group spiral galaxy NGC 300 at a distance of 1.9 Mpc is presented. A new method is introduced to analyze low resolution (∼ 5Å) spectra, which yields metallicities accurate to 0.2 dex including the uncertainties arising from the errors in Teff (5%) and log g (0.2 dex). For the first time the stellar metallicity gradient based o...

Variable stars in nearby galaxies . ⋆ II . Population I and II Cepheids in Field A of IC 1613

The light curves of Cepheids and other variable stars in Field A of IC 1613, obtained with a CCD and no filter (W h photometry), have been analyzed. It is possible to separate first overtone from fundamental mode population I Cepheids taking into account the pulsation amplitude, the shape of the light curve and the period. The expected separation is verified in the period– luminosity P L diagra...

Discovery of a Young Massive Stellar Cluster near Hess J1813-178

We present the serendipitous discovery of a young stellar cluster in the Galactic disk at l=12. Using Keck/NIRSPEC, we obtained high– and low–resolution spectroscopy of several stars in the cluster, and we identified one red supergiant and two blue supergiants. The radial velocity of the red supergiant provides a kinematic cluster distance of 4.7±0.4 kpc, implying luminosities of the stars cons...
